VASPA's new Vice President is Dr.Wayne K. Smith. Wayne received his both his Bachelor and Masters degrees in early childhood education from Norfolk State University, his Masters in Educational Leadership from Old Dominion, and both his Certificate of Advance Graduate Study and Doctor of Education from Virginia Tech. He is retired from the Southampton Schools and is a professor of Education at Hampton University.
Carole received her undergraduate degree in Middle Grades Education from James Madison University with a minor in Developmental Reading, and earned her Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from Longwood University. She has 15 years of teaching experience in high school and middle school, and administrative experience in elementary and high school as an assistant principal. Administrative experiences include serving as a middle school principal for three years, Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Administration for Mecklenburg County Public Schools for five years, and Acting Superintendent in Mecklenburg County Public Schools. Carole currently serves as Director of Human Resources for Charlottesville City Schools in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Dr. Shelly Bazemore is currently Director of Human Resources for Petersburg City Schools. She has previous experience as the Director of Instruction in Caroline County Public Schools, School Improvement Specialist at the Virginia Department of Education, 10 years as a special education teacher and 8 years of administrative/central office experience at elementary, secondary, and alternative schools within Chesterfield, Hanover, and Henrico Counties. Shelly received her Doctorate in Education Administration and Policy Studies from the George Washington University.
Ms. Mary Alderson VASPA's Secretary,is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) since 2003 with over 15 years of Human Resources experience. She transitioned to Virginia School Personnel HR after a 20-year career at Verizon Communications, Inc. She’s been with Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS) since the 2011-2012 school year and handles the Operations (C&M, Transportation, School Nutrition, Clinic Attendants & School Nurses and Technology Services) support staff organizations’ recruiting and personnel issues
